South Region

Alabama

State Municipal League: Alabama League of Municipalities
The Alabama League of Municipalities is a nonpartisan membership association of over 450 incorporated cities and towns. Since 1935, the League has worked to strengthen municipal government through advocacy, training and the advancement of effective local leadership. As the recognized voice of Alabama’s cities and towns, ALM’s member municipalities benefit from a variety of member programs, services and activities that are impossible to accomplish alone.

Risk Pool: Municipal Workers Compensation Fund
The Municipal Workers Compensation Fund (MWCF) was established by the Alabama League of Municipalities in 1976 and is the second oldest League insurance pool in the nation. With nearly 600 participating municipal entities – 80% of the Alabama League’s membership – MWCF is a member-owned, group self-insurance pool that provides a direct means for cities and towns to save on workers compensation costs.

Arkansas

State Municipal League: Arkansas Municipal League
The Arkansas Municipal League was founded in 1934 and exists for a threefold purpose: To act as the official representative of Arkansas cities and towns before the state and federal governments; to provide a clearinghouse for information and answers; and to offer a forum for discussion and sharing of mutual concerns.

Florida

State Municipal League: Florida League of Cities
Founded in 1922, the Florida League of Cities is the united voice for Florida’s cities, towns, and villages. A nonpartisan organization, the League advocates on behalf of Florida’s cities and supports local leaders through specialized events, training, and resources. Guided by the principle of local voices making local choices, the organization highlights the vital role citizens and city leaders play in shaping Florida’s cities.

Risk Pool: Florida Municipal Insurance Trust
The League established its first insurance program in 1977 to provide workers’ compensation coverage and services to governmental entities. Early success of that program led to the establishment of Trusts for the liability, property and health lines of coverage. This firmly established the League as the leader of these services in Florida. In 1987, the League opened its Public Risk Services office to administer the programs in-house. Subsequently, the insurance programs were consolidated under the name “Florida Municipal Insurance Trust” (FMIT). 

Georgia

State Municipal League: Georgia Municipal Association
The mission of the Georgia Municipal Association is to anticipate and influence the forces shaping Georgia’s cities and to provide leadership, tools and services that assist municipal governments in becoming more innovative, effective and responsive.

Kentucky

State Municipal League: Kentucky League of Cities
The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) is a non-stock, nonprofit membership association serving more than 370 Kentucky cities and municipal agencies. KLC provides cities, leaders, and employees with many services including legislative advocacy, legal services, community consulting, training and online training, policy development and research, and more. KLC also provides enterprise services such as financing options for cities, and the Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Services insures more municipal clients than any other insurance carrier in Kentucky.

Louisiana

State Municipal League: Louisiana Municipal Association
A unified voice for Louisiana’s municipal governments, the Louisiana Municipal Association’s (LMA) mission is to advocate, educate, and empower local governments to efficiently and effectively serve the citizens of Louisiana.

Mississippi

State Municipal League: Mississippi Municipal League
The Mississippi Municipal League is a voluntary group of Mississippi cities and towns. Our mission is to serve our members in a variety of ways, through legislative advocacy, optional benefits programs, training and educational opportunities, and multiple publications.

Risk Pool: Mississippi Municipal Service Company
Mississippians have always worked to solve tough problems facing their communities. That is why the Mississippi Municipal Liability Plan and the Mississippi Municipal Workers’ Compensation Group were formed. When communities found it impossible to find affordable insurance coverage in the private market, municipalities pooled their resources in order to assure that they were protected against potentially devastating losses.

North Carolina

State Municipal League: North Carolina League of Municipalities
The North Carolina League of Municipalities is a member-driven organization representing the interests of cities and towns in the state. Through their collective efforts, League member cities and towns better serve their residents and improve quality of life. For more than 100 years, the League has been one voice for cities and towns working for a better North Carolina.

Oklahoma

State Municipal League: Oklahoma Municipal League
The Oklahoma Municipal League is the unified voice of Oklahoma cities and towns, provider of information, training and resources for effective municipal governing and defender of local control.

Risk Pool: Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group
Founded in 1977 by Oklahoma cities and towns seeking insurance solutions tailored to the unique risks of municipalities, OMAG has grown from just two founding members to serving over 500 cities and towns across the state. Their focus has remained clear and consistent: to provide specialized liability, property, workers compensation, and cyber coverage exclusively for Oklahoma municipalities.

South Carolina

State Municipal League: Municipal Association of South Carolina
Formed in 1930, the Municipal Association of South Carolina represents and serves the state’s 271 incorporated municipalities. The Association is dedicated to the principle of its founding members: to offer the services, programs and tools that will give municipal officials the knowledge, experience and tools for enabling the most efficient and effective operation of their municipalities in the complex world of municipal government.

Risk Pool: South Carolina Municipal Insurance Trust
Organized in December 1983, SCMIT is a cooperative local government program providing self-funded workers’ compensation protection for municipal employees.

Tennessee

State Municipal League: Tennessee Municipal League
Since 1940, the Tennessee Municipal League has been dedicated to helping Tennessee’s towns and cities promote economic development and quality of life issues for their communities. TML has been recognized as ‘the voice’ of Tennessee’s towns and cities, as well as the go-to organization for our state government in addressing the state’s grand challenges. 

Risk Pool: Public Entity Partners
Public Entity Partners works with Tennessee governmental entities in providing effective risk management products and services with a commitment to member best interests.

Texas

State Municipal League: Texas Municipal League
The Texas Municipal League (TML) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1913 to serve and advocate for Texas cities. TML offers its member cities a wide range of services, including advocacy at the state and federal levels, legislative updates and training, legal advice, publications, and resources on topics like risk management and ethics.

Risk Pool: Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool
The Mission of the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool is to facilitate and empower a partnership amongst Texas municipalities (and other eligible local governments) by providing a stable and economical source of risk financing and loss prevention services.

Virginia

State Municipal League: Virginia Municipal League
The Virginia Municipal League is a statewide, nonprofit, nonpartisan association of city, town and county governments established in 1905 to improve and assist local governments through legislative advocacy, research, education and other services.

West Virginia

State Municipal League: West Virginia Municipal League
The West Virginia Municipal League is a statewide, nonprofit, nonpartisan association of cities, towns and villages established in 1968 to assist local governments and advance the interests of the citizens who reside within. The League achieves this directive through legislative advocacy, research, education and other services for municipal elected officials.
